<div><em>Deuntjie </em>is the first musical comedy ever presented at the Silwerskerm Festival 2024, presented in the Shotgun short film category, and was shot in only 4 days, under the mentorship of kykNET and M-Net .</div><div>The Shotgun Short film category is open to established filmmakers to demonstrate their skills with short films.</div><div><br /></div><div>Deuntjie, played by Anja Taljaard, is a shy and conscientious girl. The film examines that little voice residing in every person’s head. The voice of Vera, played by Daneel van der Walt, a larger-than-life diva, accompanied by two flamboyant backing vocals, Moses (Caleb Felix) and Jacob (Edo Mostert). <div>The Toyota SU Woordfees is a festival that transforms the town of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape Winelands into a whirlwind of energy and creativity as artists, audiences and communities collide in the celebration of theatre, film, dance, discourse, literature, art, music, and poetry. Children’s theatre is no easy feat for a performer! Not only do you have to maintain an insane energy level, you’re also playing in front of the toughest crowd you can find. Naturally, all the effort is worth seeing the lights go on for even one kid during a performance. There is no greater testimonial to the power of live theatre than a child who is so immersed that they try to fight the bad guy themselves! Children’s Theatre is pure magic and it changes lives.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>Q: What has been a highlight of your KKNK experience over the years?</div><div>A: The phenomenal productions and the festival atmosphere that Oudshoorn creates gets me excited every time. Q: Robert, what draws you to Children's Theatre?
A: As an actor, I’m drawn to the challenge. Children’s theatre is no easy feat for a performer! Not only do you have to maintain an insane energy level, you’re also playing in front of the toughest crowd you can find. Naturally, all the effort is worth seeing the lights go on for even one kid during a performance. There is no greater testimonial to the power of live theatre than a child who is so immersed that they try to fight the bad guy themselves! Children’s Theatre is pure magic and it changes lives. 

Q: What has been a highlight of your KKNK experience over the years?
A: The phenomenal productions and the festival atmosphere that Oudshoorn creates gets me excited every time. Aside from that, our magical run of the children’s production Jakkals en Wolf Onbeperk was one to remember. 

Q: Which theatrical actors do you look up to and inspire you?
A: Anna-Mart van der Merwe will always be a great inspiration to me. Her constant professionalism is eclipsed only by her massive talent and her beautiful heart. From across the border, Anthony Hopkins will always inspire me to strive for greatness.

<div>The 11th kykNET Silwerskerm festival will start on 23 August and end, on 26 August, with the Silwerskerm-awards and Gala night.</div><div>The Silwerskerm festival started in 2011, in Prins Albert, a small town in the Karoo, where only one feature film with the title “ ’n Saak van geloof” was shown.&nbsp;</div><div>Since 2011 this initiative was used to give the local film industry a boost and has led to more than 170 new short films and 50 feature films.&nbsp;</div><div>The list of success stories is long and impressive and not only did this create numerous job opportunities for actors and crew, but it created a platform for most of South Africa’s top filmmakers to enter the industry as winners of the well-known Silwerskerm festival – short film project.</div><div><br /></div><div>While several feature films by seasoned filmmakers will be making their world debut at this prestige-event, the event is also known to be a proverbial “display window” for budding talent.</div><div>Various short films, produced under mentorship, puts the spotlight on new artists.</div><div>This year, these short films, will also include short documentaries.&nbsp;</div><div>The festival includes premieres and screenings as well as pannel discussions, workshops and masterclasses where invited guests will share their knowledge, experience, and insights.</div><div><br /></div><div>See Conradie van Heerden in the short film, HIER | DAAR screening on 24 August @ 9:00 and Kim Syster can seen in the premiere of Frankie &amp; Felipe (Feature Film) on 24 August @ 16:30.</div><div><br /></div><div>In 2023, the award-ceremony will include awards for Film and Television actors, presenters and personalities who have been responsible great television entertainment that was aired between 1 April 2022 – 31 March 2023.</div><div>Devonecia Swartz has been nominated for the Best Newcomer in a Telenovella or Soap, for her role of Eva in Arendsvlei, and Marciel Hopkins, has been nominated for the Best Presenter in a Reality Show for Boer Soek ‘n Vrou.</div><div><br /></div><div>We can’t wait to see what this year’s Silwerskerm Festival will deliver!</div><div><br /></div>
